Magnificat ranks third after The Bible and The Catechism.
If I had to choose three books to take to a desert island retreat, they would be The Bible, The Catechism of the Catholic Church and my monthly Magnificat. Magnificat helps me think with the Church. The Scripture readings, prayers, hymns, brief bios of the saints are helping me grow in my walk with the Lord. The mini articles take me deeper in my sense of awe towards God. Magnificat is with me in my daily visits to a local adoration chapel and I often take it to Mass. Reading along with the prayers and readings in the Liturgy helps the truth seep through my thick skull. I've been a subscriber since April 2001 and still have all of the back issues.
Absolutely fabulous
For people, like myself, who want to participate in the daily prayers of the Church, but don't have the time to learn to pray the Liturgy of the Hours - this is great! I can use it at home, in daily Mass, or both! A definite help in keeping my focus on spiritual things during the craziness of the day.
Information and Inspiration
Magnificat is the best daily Missal I've seen, and it's really catching on in our parish. Besides morning and evening prayers and readings, and complete Mass details, each day includes a powerful meditation written by a different spiritual writer--the diversity of these authors is amazing. There are also mini-biographies of Saints sprinkled throughout, including many who may not be familiar. Each month's edition starts out with an essay devoted to a seasonal issue of apologetics, theology, spirituality, or liturgy. The booklets are just small enough to fit in a pocket or purse, and the subscription includes a special edition for Holy Week with full details of all Masses and much more. All in all a great value.
